Volume I, Number 1 Meditation News from Bhavani

October 15, 2007

Hi, Bhavani here

It’s so long since I said I’d be in contact that you may have forgotten that you signed my mailing list—but I’m really glad you did. Finally I’m feeling better (after my journey back from breaking my leg twice) and ready to get into the world again and be in touch with people.

In other issues of these News, I hope to share inspiration about meditation and tips for practice, as well as brief notes about current research, but today I mainly want to share some good news of mine: The instructional CD on meditation that I promised for so long is out at last!

Meditation Made Possible

It’s called Meditation Made Possible Vol. 1: Meditation on the Breath. Tresca Weinstein, editor of the KYTA Bulletin, says about it: “With wisdom, humor, crystal clarity, and down-to-earth, detailed directions, Bhavani Lorraine Nelson makes meditation not only possible, but also understandable, approachable, and inspiring.” (See Tresca’s complete review on the Press page.)

Don Stapleton (Brahmanand), the Dean of Yoga Education for Kripalu, loves the CD and has placed it on the Resource Sheet for Kripalu Yoga Teacher Training!

Two things unique about this CD: it contains what I call a “cool-down from the world” (pratyahar) technique that brings you into the meditative space easily and effortlessly, and, for the times when you’d like a silent sit rather than being led into it, there are two silent tracks, enabling a 12- or 20-minute sit with just a chime to bring you out.

It’s available now at the Kripalu Shop, on my website, at Amazon, and at CDBaby.com. If you do get it, I’d love to hear how it works for you.

Bringing meditation into the world…

Recently I had the honor to lead a Transforming Stress in-service workshop at Wide Horizons for Children in Waltham, MA, an agency that works with adoptions in 10 countries as well as the U.S. There were about 45 beautiful—and stressed—participants from all over the U.S. and, in addition to talking together about how we create our stress, I taught them meditation on the breath and lovingkindness meditation as ways to soothe and center themselves. Last Friday evening I was in Peabody, MA, doing a lovingkindness workshop at Temple Ner Tamid.

I’m eager to get out more, so if you know anyone in your area that might like a meditation workshop, please let me know. I go not just to yoga studios, but to schools, colleges, hospitals, businesses, churches and/or temples, anywhere someone would like me to come. And I lead workshops from one to two hours to entire weekends in length in meditation on the breath, walking meditation, lovingkindness, mantra meditation, and chanting as meditation. I’d love to visit you in your area.

and to more people at Kripalu.

Just so you know, I have an Introduction to Meditation program coming up at Kripalu this weekend, October 19–21. It would be great for you as a refresher or for any of your friends who’d like to know more about meditation. Check it out at the Kripalu website. It’s getting full, but I’d love to see you again.

That’s all for this time. Thanks for reading to the end. If you have any ideas for topics or any questions about meditation that you’d like me to address in further issues, please send them to me. I’d love your feedback. Peace and blessings to you.
